homemade deodorant

Homemade deodorant! People this stuff is amazing. Works awesome and no nasty dangerous chemicals. No wetness from the deodorant at all, none on your clothes. Its like lotion and sinks right in to the skin. It doesn’t stop you from full on sweating like regular stuff does though but not enough sweat to wet my shirt when working out. my underarm skin now feels so smooth and soft! It was getting irritated a lot and this cleared it right up! Plus I really think it is some how slowing down the hair growth. Deodorant is so hard to change and experiment with because no one wants to smell bad! I promise you if you try this stuff you won’t go back to conventional toxic deodorant again!!

the link below has tons of info and the recipe but I will copy/paste it below as well with my notes in italics. I make the orange version but will try the lavender too! I bought a tiny sample jar from Jess at Eco-friendly baby/family products MADE in the USA and loved it so I started making my own with her recipe. Be sure to check out her FB page and website. So much great info!!! I value her very honest opinions and straightforward approach to reviewing products and giving recommendations. She is one smart lady! she also has been hosting a buying club which involves being able to order from several different companies but then paying just one shipping cost as the products all get delivered to Jess and then she ships them out.

for my deodorant I use Vitacost Extra Virgin Certified Organic Coconut Oil, which is such a great coconut oil. I was using Nutiva but again Jess from Eco-friendly baby/family products MADE in the USA clued me in on how great the vitacost coconut oil was in this post. I get Bob’s Red Mill baking soda, cornstarch and arrowroot powders locally usually from ocean state job lot. you wouldn’t think to look for high quality products at job lot but they do sneak them in there! I recently discovered Plant Therapy essential oils after doing a lot of research. I didn’t like how the 2 main brands (doterra and young living) are so competitive and expensive and use MLM. Plus the plant therapy people post really informative blog posts. The yl and dt people always seem pushy to me and put down other companies and each other. Plus they recommend consuming oils and I just don’t think some random rep who isn’t trained in aromatherapy and is trying to make money off of selling to you, can say she is sure its safe to ingest oils. I have been very happy with the plant therapy oils and love reading their blog.

For a perfect 4 oz jar-full follow this recipe:
**Fill your 4 oz glass jar 2/3-3/4 full of organic, unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil, set on warm stovetop/oven to melt. (I use the microwave)
**Add 1 1/2 TBSP each organic arrowroot, cornstarch, baking soda. (1/2 tbsp = 1 1/2 tsp… so you need 1 tbsp and 1 1/2 tsp or I just eyeball it!)
**Add ~5-10 drops your favorite essential oil. I use 5 drops of Tea Tree oil for it’s beneficial antibacterial properties, and about 10 drops of orange or lavender for a pleasant scent
**Consult this list for oils to avoid during pregnancy, or oils that have other concerns:
THAT’S IT!! Mix together & stick in fridge or let sit out to harden!!
