CSA eats! apple crisp

I made up this recipe based on a bag mix I usually buy from a local apple picking farm. The mix ingredients listed are oats, flour, brown sugar and “spices”. the directions involve adding a stick of melted butter. I had double the amount of apples that the mix calls for and no mix. So here is what I came up with ……..

7 Empire apples, peeled, cored and cut into pieces (winter CSA apples)

2 sticks of butter, melted

2 cups thick cut oats

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 cup flour

cinnamon and nutmeg to taste

preheat oven to 350

put apple pieces in oen safe 9×13 baking pan

melt butter in large mixing bowl

stir in flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. mixture will be thick and crumbly

top apples with crumb mixture

bake for 45 minutes

serve warm with vanilla ice cream
